CLAS senior Greer attended the State of the Union

Mahala Greer, an undergraduate Spanish major and graduating senior, sat in the first lady's box with Michelle Obama at the President's recent State of the Union address. Greer introduced the President when he visited the CU Denver campus back in November, and caught President Obama's attention with her direct, honest assessment of the state of American education.

Greer gave an interview for the Chronicle of Higher Education in February, in which she is quoted as saying, "There needs to be more public funding, such as more federal and state dollars available to keep the cost of tuition down. Also, making sure universities are as efficient as they can be, so they don’t have to raise tuition."

More of Greer's interview can be read here.
